They often end up here

Throughout this crisis, many organizations have helped deliver food to those in need, and have done an incredible job at providing short-term relief. However, as things start getting back to normal, we are seeing a whole set of different and complicated needs that goes far beyond providing food support.

Foundation Hogar de Esperanza (Home of Hope) has the only facility in Cuenca that can provide a balanced approach to meeting the needs of those affected by this crisis. Our building has 38 rooms from which we can provide shelter to as many as 60 people per night. Our kitchen has served thousands of warm meals. Our Food Bank and Thrift Shop have provided much needed food and clothing assistance to over 10,000 people during this crisis. We provide medical, nutrition, dental, counselling services, and more to those in dire need.

On a daily basis, other foundations, government agencies, hospitals, the police, and others refer to us those who need specialized assistance. We deal with mental health issues, drug addictions, malnourishe children, abused individuals, refugees and the homeless. Each person who comes to us for help has unique needs which we thoroughly assess. Through our extensive network, we can get people medical appointments and other types of assistance that truly meet their needs. Other health centers from as far away as Puyo, Macas, and Machala refer patients to us for specialized care. If someone is truly in a health crisis that they cannot handle on their own, they often end up here with us. We do whatever we can to provide a holistic approach in helping them to heal, and then to thrive.

The requests for help are many, but our resources are few. Donations have been down this month. We need your help to continue providing assistance to those with nowhere else to turn. To support our efforts in helping those in greatest need, you can make a donation at: https://hogaresperanza.org/en/donations/. Thank you so much – we could not do any of this without you.
