The Cuenca English Lions Clubs in support of diabetes

As most of you know, one of the four major support pillars for your Cuenca English Lions Club is Diabetes (along with Hunger, Vision and Education), and November 14th is National Diabetes Awareness Day. On that day a marathon will be run for the dual purpose of raising funds to help those suffering from this debilitating disease as well as to raise the public awareness of the disastrous consequences to those afflicted.

We ask you to join Casa de la Diabetes and your CELC to help support one of Casa de la Diabetes’ patients, Cristian Munoz, who will be participating in the marathon. Cristian, is a 21-year old graduate of the University of Cuenca with Type 1 diabetes. He lost his job during the COVID pandemic and would appreciate any support that he can receive as a result of this 42 kilometer Marathon.

If you or any of your friends would like to help support Cristian by pledging a small amount for each kilometer he completes, please send your verbal pledge to Lion, William Dick ( Christian is thankful for any amount he receives, whether you pledge .25, .50, or even $1.00 per completed kilometer.

Following the Marathon, you will be notified as to the number of kilometers that Cristian achieved and are asked to bring your pledge donation to the next CELC meeting (November 16th ), or to transfer the funds directly into William Dick’s PayPal account (
Be assured that 100% of the pledges collected will be given to Cristian Munoz.
Thank you for your participation and continuing generosity to those in need.

William Dick on behalf of CELC.
