Sonrisas de Esperanza (Smiles of Hope) Christmas Event 2020

Christmas time is quickly approaching, a time to reflect on the past year – and oh my, what a year it has been.

With all of our ups and downs this past year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot forget those among us who have felt its effects most severely – families here in Ecuador living in extreme poverty, facing critical illness, and those who are struggling to survive during the economic downturn.

To bring some greatly needed relief into the lives of these families living on the edge, Hogar de Esperanza is changing the format of its annual Sonrisas de Esperanza (Smiles of Hope) Christmas event. In lieu of the usual mass, meal, and party, we will be working with our partner organizations to identify and provide 100 families in extreme need with large canastas (baskets) filled with nutritious food, personal care items, and vitamins for families with malnourished children. This will be an opportunity to give these families some hope amongst the daily difficulties they regularly face. In addition to families here in Cuenca, we will include some of our patients from Macas, Loja and Gualaceo in this endeavor.

For this event to be successful, we need your help! Only by working together can we remind these families living on the edge that they are both seen and loved. You can sponsor a family for $100. We also accept in-kind donations to help us fill the canastas. Please contact us for a list of needed items.

Be a part of bringing some joy and love this Christmas season to families in greatest need. Thank you so much – we could not do any of this without you!
