Ceramics in Ecuador
Ecuador Trips from Cuenca

Around 400 BC – 500 BC in the Formative Period,
Pre-Columbian cultures began to develop ceramic pieces with geometric decorations or Phyto (femine), Zoo (animal ) & Anthropomorphic (having human characteristics) sculptures morphological elements, a highly advanced cultural development.

The Cerro Narrío Culture, (2000 – 600 a.C), or also Chaullubamba, developed in the southern-Andean part of Ecuador, particularly in the current provinces of Cañar and Azuay, which is why it is considered the ancestor of the Cañaris.

The long cultural tradition of this society began in the Formative period and lasted until the Regional Development period.

Tacalzhapa & Cazhaloma (500 B.C. – 500 A.D.) continued with this tradition, using the tools known as huactanas for its elaboration.

To shape or give form to the clay pots the artisans use the hitting method with the huactana, Concave and convex or female and male, used to shape clay pots using the technique inherited from our Cañari Ancestors..

Today in San Miquel de Porotos in the Province of Cañar -Canton Azoques, they continue with this Ancestral elaboration of Ceramic Pottery.......
