Mayte Levenbach (Violin), Guest Soloist in the XXVII digital delivery of the OSC

The young and virtuous Mayte Levenbach will surprise us by interpreting a brilliant Concerto No. 2 for Violin and Orchestra, op. 63 by Sergei Prokófiev in the XXVII delivery in the Digital Concert Hall of the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra this Friday, September 4 at 8 PM on YouTube and on Facebook https: //, concert recorded on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Pumapungo Theater. The repertoire includes the beautiful work of the great composer Ottorino Respighi: Las Fontanas de Roma.

The Fontanas of Rome. Ottorino Respighi. In this symphonic poem the composer has tried to express the feelings and visions suggested to him by four of the fountains of Rome, contemplated at the hours in which their beauty is most impressive for those who observe them: the Fountain of Valle Julia, the Triton Fountain, Trevi Fountain and Villa Medici Fountain. Then everything dies peacefully in the silence of the night.

Concerto for Violin and Orchestra N ° 2, op. 63. Sergei Prokofiev. It was premiered on December 1, 1935 in Madrid by the French violinist Robert Soëtens and the Madrid Symphony Orchestra conducted by Enrique Fernández Arbós. Prokofiev wrote it after being satisfied with the interpretation of his Sonata for Two Violins by Soëtens and Samuel Dushkin. Stravinsky had just dedicated a concert to Dushkin, so Prokofiev did the same for Soëtens. While composing the concert, Prokofiev was on tour with Soëtens and later wrote: “The variety of places where I wrote this Concerto shows the nomadic lifestyle-concert tour that I was leading then. I wrote the main theme of the first movement in Paris, the first theme of the second movement in Voronezh, I finished the orchestration in Baku and the premiere was in Madrid. " Prokofiev faces the work just at a difficult moment: on the one hand, there will be the interventionism and censorship of the Zdanov Committee, on the other the primacy granted to Shostakovich and the line that his criteria will impose and to complete, in his capacity as a piano player, the preponderance that the ascending generation of the Gilels or Richter will mark.
