Information for car owners of how to get to Izhcayluma Ecolodge

As I drive twice a week between Cuenca and Vilcabamba to provide personal transfer for some of our guests I just want to inform car owners about the road and police situation.

If you drive on the days of your plate number you won't have any problems or trouble. The police usually wouldn't even stop you. If they do, you don't even need to open your window, you simply show them your driver’s license and matricula through it.

When you approach a police control, put your mask on.
You can take 4 people inside a normal car (including driver)

Between Cuenca and Vilcabamba you have 4 stationary police controls.
Usually they only look at your plate number, they don't even stop you.
1) Leaving Cuenca at the crossroad to Tarquí
2) In Oña (a presence of soldiers is possible because it is the provincial border)
3) Before Loja
4) Leaving Loja on the road to Vilcabamba

The drive is beautiful and not a lot of traffic.
From the center of Cuenca to Vilcabamba you'll need 4.5 hours

If one of the two provinces should go back to red, you always have the permission to drive back to your city of residency. We checked that with the police.

For reservations at Izhcayluma or any question, please send us an email or enter our website.
Also, to learn about our new measures which we have taken because of COVID-19

Have a nice drive and hope to see you soon in Vilcabamba
