Hogar de Esperanza: Announcement of New Directiva

Each year, under Ecuadorian law, legal foundations are required to receive approval for their directiva (board of directors) from the regulatory agencies. Due to closure of government offices during the COVID-19 crisis, there was a delay. Fundacion Hogar de Esperanza is pleased to finally announce our new directiva for this year. We are fortunate to have an incredible team of experienced and dedicated individuals to direct the activities of the foundation. In the coming weeks, we will be profiling each member of our team in more detail to give you a better idea of what we do.

Garry Vatcher, our Director, has over 30 years’ experience in business, social work, and HIV programming. He is familiar with the Ecuadorian culture as he has been coming to Ecuador since 1987. He founded Hogar de Esperanza four years ago and continues to lead us in executing its mission.

Teresa Eklund is our Assistant Director, working closely with Garry on fundraising, program expansion and better streamlining of our operations. She holds a Master of Public Health from Emory University, and has more a than 15 years’ experience managing international health programs and administering grants. Before coming to Cuenca, she spent 6 years working with NGOs in East Africa.

Sandro Garcia serves as our Secretary, coordinating all of the foundation’s contracts, communicating with our Spanish-speaking partners and the various government bodies with whom we work, and gathering information from those requesting support. He has 15 years’ experience in business administration.

Oscar Rebolledo is our Patient Coordinator, leading on all matters involving our patients. He is well experienced in coordinating their medical appointments and getting them the medications they need. He also coordinates all programs with the hospitals such as our Baby Kit program, mental health services, patient visits and patient services.
