Cuenta’s tech guy: Windows 10 update might compromise your computer

The new update of Windows 10 called 2004 (20 for the year and 04 for the month), might compromise your computer's drive if it has installed a Solid State Drive (SSD).

Windows 10 has a feature in which it defrags your drive at last once a month as part of normal maintenance. To "defrag" or de-fragment, in short, is to arrange the data in the drive for fast access to the files, both system files and personal ones.

At first glance, this is a good feature but it's not when Windows "forget" the last time when it was done in an SSD unit and does it again every time the computer is turned on. SSD units have a different structure than the regular spinning Hard Disk Drives (HDD), the constant defrag of an SSD unit can lead to reduced life expend or damage in the worst of cases.

If your computer does not have an SSD unit, you will have no problem with this situation, but if you are not sure if your drive is SSD or HDD, you better check this. Microsoft has not yet release a fix for this situation, but there is a way to manually prevent this potential damage on your drive.
