Government coronavirus measures starting next week

In Thursday's El Comercio newspaper, among other announcements was that starting on Monday April 13th, there will be a system of "flags" by province to rate each province on how it's doing with the coronavirus pandemic. All provinces will start out with "red" status.

In the coming days the government will explain the implications of moving to orange status and the dispositions for each color.

This is interesting because it suggests that the emergency operations committee in Quito is preparing to analyze the situation and restrictive measures by province. Since Azuay has been managing the coronavirus situation relatively well, with the health system more or less intact and still operating, we might hope that we could see a gradual, slow change in restrictive measures in the coming weeks.

I would venture to guess that since Guayas province is by far the most seriously impacted by the pandemic, it will be under more restrictions for a longer period of time.
