Food Bank initiatives

Did you know that, aside from the Municipal Food Bank, which is primarily funded by the Municipality and the Business Community, Hogar de Esperanza operates the only other food bank in Cuenca providing emergency food assistance to those in need?

We are currently providing emergency food support to more than 60 people each day during the COVID-19 crisis. Day workers who now have no income, young mothers, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses come to us desperately asking for help with food to get them through the crisis. A homeless shelter in the city, a refuge for 20 young men and women who were living on the streets but struggling for survival during the crisis, will continue receiving support from our food bank to sustain them and give them hope.

We are collaborating with Cuenca Solidaria, a program run by municipal counselors targeting needy families with young children and seniors, to distribute daily bread and milk to 1,500 vulnerable families each week. We are also working with other foundations and group to identify those in need, particularity the local hospitals and Casa del Migrante.

We are especially grateful for you, as your donations allow us to buy specific food items in order to provide targeted assistance to vulnerable families. Thank you so much – we could not do it without you.
