Wuhan Flu vs. coronavirus vs. COVID-19 names explained (official)

The initial name for the current virus initially picked-up by governments and media was "Wuhan virus'"

But the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control have worked over the years at no longer naming any virus after an animal or a location (wouldn't want to hurt their feelings).

So here is the official terminology from the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases (NIAID-RML)

Name of the virus itself: Sars-CoV-2

Name of the condition it causes: COVID-19
CO stands for a strain of coronavirus
VI means it's a virus
D stands for disease
19 stands for discovered in the year 2019
