Inauguration of the exhibition "The Charge" by Alice Trepp

In the framework of the Bicentennial year of the city, the Mayor's Office of Cuenca and its Directorate of Culture, Recreation and Knowledge, through the Municipal Museum of Modern Art, invite you this Wednesday, March 4 at 7 PM in the Gallery of the City Hall from Cuenca (Bolívar and Borrero corner), to the inauguration of the sculptural exhibition "La Carga", by the Ecuadorian Swiss artist Alice Trepp; who pays tribute to those who carry a double yoke behind them: the socioeconomic exclusion and the emotional damage it entails. This sample includes 10 sculptures of women’s paths originating in the Chota valley that make a hard living through the trade of fruits and vegetables, as well as the resale of merchandise brought from the border.

The sculptural exhibition directs our attention to issues such as exclusion, racism and internal migration. The works are built based on a structure that must support the weight of a large amount of clay that gradually reveals the proportions, the physiognomy and the elements that distinguish who poses, with strict adherence to its anatomy, centimeter to centimeter and to natural size. Once melted, they are colored by hand with the bright colors that characterize these Afro-descendant populations.

Each of the sculptures is accompanied by a text that tells the life story of the character represented along with their experiences in the same geographical space.

The inauguration will also feature mediation by the artist and the curator of the exhibition, Patricio Estévez, who visits us from the city of Quito.
Free entry.

March, 4th, from 7 to 9 PM, free, Galería de Alcaldía de Cuenca, Bolivar y Borrero esq., Cuenca.
