Tour to Kushi Waira, Feb 13th

OK Gang. I want to tell you about my second favorite tour of all time here. My favorite is in the Amazon but that's a subject for another time. Kushi Waira is a Canar community in Tarqui. Their motto is Cuidando nuestra Madre Tierra con educacion ambiental, cultural y turistica. Caring for our mother earth with environmental education, cultural education and turistic education. They really mean it. It is an adventure worth taking as these people walk the walk. The leader, Don Alfonso, has never been to a doctor and has not taken any modern medicine, yet he is spry and healthy at our age.

On this adventure we will have an informative presentation on what the community stands for and how they have achieved it. followed by a traditional breakfast, the first mote I ever liked. There are demonstrations all day long of different things such as cooking utensils, music and dances. The highlight is a walk up the hill to the area where all of the medicinal plants are grown and talks about their uses.

After a brief ceremony atop the hill there is a real pampamesa. This is a community feast shared on a large tablecloth set on the ground. It was so impressive that Pam asked for one for her birthday. The hilltop runs alongside the Inca Trail and you can walk a stretch of that if you would like. All in all one of the most informative and reasonable tours we have taken. All of this including transportation for the day is only $40. We are going next Thursday, Feb 13, so please hurry. You can either contact myself or Martin Avila
