Platelet rich plasma treatments (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a treatment using your blood and platelets, accelerate wound healing, improve joint function, provide cosmetic skin improvements, as well as assist in regenerative healing in dentistry.

At the Casa de Bienestar - Integrative Health Center,” we specialize in Orthopedic and Cosmetic treatments, which consists of placing an injection of the own platelets in the affected area. Treatments may include a shoulder, elbow, knee, hip, ankle, foot, and spine. It can also help tendons and ligament issues such as a calcaneal spur, frozen shoulder, bursitis, tendon ruptures, and hypertrophic scars.

Platelets are very fragile and have a very short period of effectiveness once they are withdrawn from the patient. At our Health Center, we have a special laminar cabinet to minimize the risk of contamination and maintain the correct temperature, procedures, as well as a Medical team which includes Dr. Juca, Dr. Viviana Gomez (lab) and a certified nurse so the platelets can be prepared and reinjected promptly maximizing the effectiveness of the treatments.

During your initial consult, Dr. Juca will do a comprehensive Medical History and Physical Exam and will order appropriate lab/blood work, which can be taken care of at our In-house Clinical Laboratory. Once your assessment is complete, he will recommend a treatment plan to address your situation.
Fernando Juca, MD, has a Masters in Biological Testing & Diagnosis with additional Certifications in Cellular Medicine, Molecular Diagnostics, Neural Therapy, IV Nutrition, Medical Marijuana, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Chelation. He is a Professor at Universidad Catolica de Cuenca teaching Pathology.

In a review of the US National Library of Medicine/NIH (NCBI.nlm.nih.gob/pub med) literature, recent research on “Platelet Rich Plasma Osteoarthritis” includes the following:

1. “Intra-articular Platelet Rich Plasma injection for Knee Osteoarthritis; a Summary of Meta-analysis” indicates PRP was “more effective in terms of pain relief and functional improvement in Knee Osteo-arthritis patients than hyaluronic acid(HA) and placebo with no difference in the risk of an adverse event between PRP, HA, and placebo.” (Journal Orthop Surgical Res, 2019 Nov 27; 14 (1):385.
2. “Effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma in pain management of osteoarthritis knee: a double-blind, randomized comparative study.” Rev Bras Anestisiol 2019 Sep-Oct, 69(5) 439-477.
“The present study showed to reduce joint pain potentially-significant decrease in pain and stiffness and improvement of physical functions of the knee joint with intra-articular platelet-rich plasma injection as compared to normal saline.”
