New program with focus on adolescent girls living in poverty

At Hogar de Esperanza, we are excited to introduce a new program bringing health, life skills and inspirational programs to youth – especially adolescent girls – throughout Ecuador. Through support to our patients over the years, we have learned from first-hand experience the challenges facing adolescent girls. For those living in poverty or with abuse, the risks become exponentially greater. The need for survival forces a girl to make choices based on desperation, rather than on what would serve her best in her life. She becomes a woman struggling with HIV, living with domestic abuse, or raising a child while still being a child herself. Our program aims to break this cycle.

Our project in Salinas is a pilot of a wider-reaching program which will be duplicated throughout other parts of Ecuador. Many of our female patients come to us from Salinas which indicates a great need in that part of Ecuador, thus the decision to pilot the project there.

On March 29th, 2020, the International Day of Good Deeds, we will work with the San Raymundo II community and our partners in Salinas to put the roof on the community center, which will house these life-changing programs for young women. You can join us for this event – we still have space available – which includes a 3-night stay in Salinas for $250, all-inclusive.

If you want to participate, but you can’t make it to Salinas with us, your donation of $30 will help build one meter of the community center (casa comunal). For each $30 you donate, your name will also be entered into our raffle – the prize being a two-night stay with breakfast, a couples’ massage and a complimentary basket of his/her skin products (natural/chemical-free) at a lovely bed & breakfast, Casa Blanca Playa Cautivo, just a minute’s walk to the beach in Salinas!

On Sunday, March 15th, from 3-5pm, we’ll hold a fundraising event benefiting the project at a beautiful space in Seminario San Luis overlooking both the courtyard and Parque Calderon. The lovely Lynne LeBlanc Nadeau will sing for us as we enjoy delicious bocaditos (appetizers) provided, with wine and beer available for purchase, and hear more about the project benefiting adolescent girls from the San Raymundo II barrio. Please mark your calendars and join us for this very worthy cause!

To make your $30 donation to the project and be entered into the raffle, you can drop by our thrift store located at Juan Montalvo 8-18 y Mariscal Sucre, buy a raffle ticket at the March 15th event or donate online by visiting
