Hogar de Esperanza's San Raymundo II Project

Hogar de Esperanza is embarking on a new project in Salinas. This is one of our most exciting projects to date because it involves an integrated approach to solving issues around poverty. What we learn from this project will be a model of support for many communities in Ecuador.

The barrio, San Raymundo II, is typical of many barrios on the coast where poverty is rampant. With lack of resources, many live in small houses with no running water, sewer system, or electricity. Living in such a difficult environment, teenage pregnancies, drug use, crime and despair often take over these barrios. San Raymundo II, being new, is trying hard to prevent these problems.

They are trying to build a community center but ran out of money. At the end of March, we are going to go and help them complete it as part of International Day of Good Deeds. You can help in many ways. 1) We are selling sea salt that supports the community workers. You can purchase this salt at our Thrift Shop 2) You can go with us. The cost of the 3-night stay in Salinas is $250. This is an all-inclusive weekend that includes a donation to the project. 3) You can sponsor a meter of construction for $30. Ecuador Ama lo Nuestro will also be sending a medical team with us to visit the community.

Our objective in exchange for helping this community is that they provide education programs directed by us to prevent teenage pregnancies, programs directed toward women and children, life skills training, nutritional and HIV awareness. But first, they need a community center to offer these programs. If you would like to know more about this program or to support it, please contact us.
