Know your blood type

Recently, my husband needed a blood transfusion while in the hospital, due to anemia. He has a rare blood type (B negative), and could only accept his blood type or O negative. The Red Cross was helpful in finally locating one unit in Ibarra.

I think it's important for everyone here to know their blood type. If you have an Ecuadorian driver's license, your blood type is in the upper right corner. That's smart. But the Red Cross can also give you a card with your blood type on it. I have mine from being a blood donor in the States for years.

Also, if you are a rare type, please consider donating blood at the local Red Cross. You can also go online to see which blood types are compatible with others.
