Archaelogical Chobshi, pachamanka food ceremony and hats

Friday November 8, from 8 AM to 6 PM. We would like to invite you to share a fantastic day with Barbara DeVolld, Braulio Prado and our local guide from Chobshi visiting the Archaelogical Complex of Chobshi near Sigsig.

It is known that the area was occupied by the Cañaris before the arrival of the Inca, with Duma, the chief of the Duma Dynasty, chief of the group and king of the castle. Duma is famous for his refusal to give in to the invading Incas. Eventually, the two civilizations merged.

We will pick you up at 8 AM from Plaza Otorongo and we will drive for about one hour and a half to Chobshi Museum where Nuve and her family will welcome us and share the history of the area.

We will then start the food ceremony known as PachaManka, which is a traditional way of cooking underground with hot stones. After preparing and starting the cooking process, and during the time we wait for the food to cook, we will walk to Cañon del Pailon (Canyon of Pailon), an easy 1 hour walk with fantastic scenery on a flat path perfect for a photo lovers The path can be a bit muddy, so we recommend wearing confortable shoes , not sandals, After this walk we will return to the Museum and after blessing the food with songs and dances we will have lunch which will be the food we cooked during the PachaManka, chicken, potatoes, rice, plantains, pineapple and more.

When we finish eating we will go to visit the Fortaleza de Duma (Duma's fort) with it's rock walls, and the Black Cave (where 10,000 year old human remains and ancient artifacts were found).

On our way back to Cuenca, we will visit the Asociacion de Tejedoras Maria Auxiliadora, where we will see this fantastic women's cooperative, watching the women making the traditional Panama hats and more.

We will be back in Cuenca by 6 PM. It will be a long day but well worth it. You will love it

The cost of the trip is $35 all inclusive (includes transport, local guide, food)

If you want to join us please send us a email to book your space to: or call 098 945 6551.
