Work and pray, live on hay, you'll get pie in the sky when you die

Is this quote referring to cottage pie or shepherd's pie? Either way, pie in the sky when you die sounds like a good thing to me. Speaking of cottage and shepherd's pie, do you know the difference? While used synonymously, shepherd's pie usually contains lamb while cottage pie contains beef.

I am bringing out the big guns for today's special, my world-famous cottage pie. I stole the recipe from a leprechaun on his death bed – actually, I traded him a box of lucky charms for it, but saying I stole it makes the story sound better. It was passed down from generation to generation and has always been the possession of a leprechaun until it wasn't. To say the cottage pie is magically delicious would be an understatement. As the leprechauns say, “May all who love the Lord, love you and those who don’t love you, may the Lord give them a limp so you can see them coming.” Not that this has anything to do with the taste of the shepherd's pie, mind you. Let's just say you'll find it to be a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. A warning though...“It’s no use carrying an umbrella if your shoes are leaking.”

The special is a healthy portion of my world-class shepherd's pie, a house salad (to stay true to our name - The Vegetable Bar and a Cappuccino for $6.95. Add a piece of "Better than New York Cheese Cake for only $2. (you can choose to have caramel, white chocolate or dark chocolate swirled on top) And if you are really feeling lucky, you can throw in a bottle of Nordica stout (the perfect beverage to accompany shepherd's pie) for another $2. You really don't want to miss this - who knows how long it will be before I make it again. The last time I made it here in Cuenca, I was the guest Chef at Common Grounds almost 3 years ago. Of course we will be selling all other menu items for those who don't like shepherd's pie and as always, the coffee is free!

We are located on Ordonez Lasso y Los Cedros in Edificio Los Cedros next to Mudo Digital. Our hours are 9 M - 5 PM and we serve breakfast all day long.

“May you always have work for your hands to do. May your pockets hold always a coin or two. May the sun shine bright on your window pane. May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain."
