Nature, history, great food, and hats visiting Sigsig

Friday, September 20 from 8 AM to 6 PM

We will pick you up at 8 AM from Plaza Otorongo and we will drive for about one hour and a half to Chobshi Museum where Nuve and her family will welcome us and share the history of the area.

We will then start the food ceremony known as PachaManka, which is a traditional way of cooking underground with hot stones. After preparing and starting the cooking process, and during the time we wait for the food to cook, we will hike to CaƱon del Pailon (Canyon of Pailon), an easy 2-hour hike with fantastic scenery on a flat path. The path can be a bit muddy and wet after a rain, so we recommend wearing either hiking shoes or Wellington type boots, and also the use of hiking poles. If you don't have poles, we will have some to spare. After this hike, we will return to the Museum and after blessing the food we will have lunch which will be the food we cooked during the PachaManka, chicken, potatoes, rice, plantains, pineapple and more.

When we finish eating, we will go to visit the Fortaleza de Duma (Duma's fort) with its rock walls, and the Black Cave (where 10,000 year old human remains and ancient artifacts were found).

On our way back to Cuenca, we will visit the Asociacion de Tejedoras Maria Auxiliadora, where we will see this fantastic women's cooperative, watching the women making the traditional Panama hats and more.

We will be back in Cuenca by 6 PM. It will be a long day but well worth it. You will love it

The cost of the trip is $35 all inclusive (includes transport, local guide, food)

If you want to join us please send us a email to book your space to: layuntatiendaycocina@gmail.com or call 098 945 6551.

It is always great to see you,

Sole
