El Chacarero hot sauce

I went to get coffee at the little shop just past the flower market by Parque Calderon. On the counter there was a display of hot sauces. (I use that description in a relative sense in Ecuador). The mas picante was one made with a Rocoto Amarillo pepper. Not being familiar with this species, i thought I'd optimistically take a chance. Was I surprised? Great flavor and pretty good heat. Good enough for me to order a half case to share (12 bottles).

Pedro Salgado lives in the house where the coffee shop is (beautiful courtyard and he personally delivered). He knows his peppers. HIs other blends have won 1st place in International Competition in NYC. everything is organic/natural. He says his maracuya and smoked flavors are the best. I'm going to try them all (even the sweet ones, not just the hot).

Worth the trip, trust me.

Most days 9-5, Sucre 10-50
