Real stories from the Hogar

The doctors say he will survive…if… He has a tumor on his spine and will never walk again. He is 16-years old. His mother makes $80 per month. With that she has to feed and take care of him and his 14-year old brother. His father died. He lives an hour outside Cuenca.

Hogar de Esperanza is often asked to help in situations where a patient has no other options. We partner with medical doctors who advise us of urgent needs. This call came from SOLCA.
What the boy needs is a hospital type bed. As he does not have a comfortable bed, he is prone to getting sores and the tumor site gets irritated. This in turn, forces him back into hospital, which puts further stress on the family.

We have been asked if there is anything we can do for him. A bed will cost about $1,200 and it will be nice to help them with a little food. If you would like to contribute to this cause or to adopt this family to help them out on a regular basis with some food, please contact us. Donations can be dropped off at MINKA, Gran Colombia 9-69 and Padre Aguirre. Thank you for your support.
