The magnicefent arqueological complex of Chobshi

Friday, March 29

We would like to invite you to share a fantastic day with Marianne, Barb and Sole visiting the Arqueological Complex of Chobshi

It is known that the area was occupied by the cañaris , being Duma the chief of the group and king of the castle.

We will start at 8 AM from Plaza Otorongo, at Ave 3 de Noviembre, we will drive for about one hour and make a short stop in a nice nursery just to stretch our legs and enjoy the beauty of the plants

After we will carry on to Chobshi Museum where Nuve and her family will welcome us, we will start the food ceremony knows as PachaManka traditional way of cooking underground with hot stones, during the time we wait until the food is cooking we will start our hike to Cañon del Pailon, 2 hours hike in a flat path but a bit muddy and wet so we strongly recommend the use of either hiking shoes or even wellington boots, also the use of a hiking poles just to help you with stability, if you don’t have poles we will have some to spare so don’t worry. You will lose your breath but not for the walk but for the magnifecent escenary

After this hike and the blessing of the food we will have lunch which will be the food we cooked during the PachaManka, chicken, potatoes, rice, plantains, pineapple and more

When we finish eating we will go to visit the Fortaleza de Duma, the black Cave and Zhabalula, where you will learn many things about the Cañari comunity and how incredible they were

On our way back to Cuenca we will visit the Asociacion de Tejedoras Maria Auxiliadora where we will see this fanatastic women making the traditional sombreros de paja toquilla and more

We will be back in Cuenca by 6 PM; long day but you will love it.  Believe me, I did.

The cost of the trip is $35 ( includes transport, local guide, food)
