Monthly Spanish Classes at the “University for Seniors”

The Universidad del Adulto Mayor (UAM) / University for Seniors, a private, not-for-profit continuing education institute for seniors, will again be offering beginning level Spanish classes on a monthly basis beginning the first week of April. The class will meet two mornings a week for three months and will be taught by an experienced bilingual (Spanish-English) teacher.

The UAM was the first institute of its kind for seniors in Ecuador and one of the first in all of Latin America. It offers core-curriculum courses of particular interest and value to seniors, for example, gerontology, computer science, and quality of life. It also offers English classes and various workshops, for example, painting, tai chi, multisensory stimulation, guitar/singing, and memory exercises. Furthermore, the UAM has a choir for seniors, which anyone is welcome to join.

As expats studying Spanish in the UAM’s Spanish language program become more proficient in the language, the school hopes that they will also consider attending other – core curriculum - classes at the UAM. These courses provide them with an opportunity not only to deepen their knowledge about subjects that are particularly pertinent to seniors but also to enhance their language skills and forge new ties with Ecuadorian seniors.
