Want to be more involved with our community?

A public technical/trade high school in Cuenca is seeking additional English speaking volunteers to help expand the students’ English skills. We currently have 4 volunteers.

I have volunteered at the school since 2017, and thoroughly enjoy it. Don’t let your lack of formal teaching training be a deterrent, and you don’t have to be a grammar expert. The students really just need to be around a native English speaker.

The school is located very close to the “regional hospital” between 12 de Abril and 10 de Agosto. Several bus lines (22, 24, 14, 7) run nearby, and there are plenty of taxis. On street parking is also available.

Each class is 40 minutes, and you can sign up for as few or as many as you wish. Classes run Monday-Friday, from 7:50 through 1:30, and you can pick any days/times that work for you. Each class has 5 very eager and bright students.

You can structure your time with the students however you wish: work from their English textbooks, conversations, and/or design your own teaching materials. The idea is just to expose the students to native speakers. You won’t be giving tests, grading papers, etc.

We would like to invite you to “shadow” us as we teach a class. It’s a great opportunity to check out the program, meet the students and teachers, and see if you would enjoy participating in such a program.

For more information, or if you would like to schedule a visit, please let me know. We hope to hear from you!
