I just finished a very interesting book that I would highly recommend. “The Panama Hat Trail” by Tom Miller. I purchased the kindle edition from Amazon. Written in 1986, you learn about all that goes into the making of the sombreros de paja toquilla and - as with all good social histories - you learn more about the history of Ecuador, including a bit about the CIA involvement in the 60s and 70s. I found it fascinating to compare Mr. Miller’s description of Cuenca then to Cuenca today. Also, in the book, you will find references to other books written about Ecuador.

I found this book an absolute pleasure to read and just wanted to share this recommendation with you, nothing more.
