Real stories from the Hogar

She threw her arms around me and said ¨Thanks for coming, because we have no one else¨. That was the gratitude of a mother who was watching her 16-year old son die. She also just found out that he was sexually abused since he was 12 and she knew nothing about it. He was too scared to tell anyone. He was infected with HIV because of the abuse and it was now too late to save his life.

We have helped and continue to help this extremely poor family who live in a very remote village, deal with their loss and provide financial support. The ICC helped us cover funeral costs, we went with the family to police hearings, and I even went to the boy’s grave with his brothers to talk about how they felt.

Your support of Minka, Gran Colombia 9-69, Esperanza Thrift Shop, Tarqui 10-15 and Hogar de Esperanza helps us assist families like this one.
