Lunch at Shamuico Espai and a visit to Saraguro

A great day in the south visiting Saraguro community and enjoying a fantastic lunch at Shamuico Espai
Wednesday, October 17.
Saraguro is a small town in the province of Loja 2:30 hour’s drive from Cuenca and is the home of the Saraguros, an indigenous group that traces their roots back to the days of the Tahuantinsuyo or Inca empire.

We will pick you at at 8 AM at Plaza Otorongo and our first stop will be at La Yunta Restaurante to have breakfast. For this trip we will offer a selection of fruit followed by hard-boiled eggs with tomato sauce served with homemade callimata bread, tea or coffee and a glass of agua de frescos.
After breakfast we will start our way to Saraguro where Juana Cartuchi will welcome us to take us around and show us the small secrets of her land.

We will go to a small community where they made the famous Saraguro hats and visit a local museo.

For lunch we are going to delight ourselves with a 3 course meal at Shamuico where Samuel Ortega will show us his fantastic cuisine. The concept of his tapas style restaurant in Saraguro is to apply all the modern techniques he learned in Europe to traditional Ecuadorian dishes, as well as his own unique creations and twists.

After lunch we will meet Juana again and this time she will take us around town center to show us the beauty of her land and also visit some different artesanas where we can appreciate the different styles of jewelry and ponchos, Saraguro is famous for their highly skills women for jewelry and weaving.

We will be back in Cuenca at around 7 PM, long day but great trip.
The cost of the day is $45 per person including private transport, breakfast, 3 course meal for lunch at Shamuico and Saraguro guide
