Bookart: No Ordinary Small Book

Handcrafting artistic books workshop at idiomART!

Instructor: Magdalena Herreshoff (poet, writer, and book-artist)

Anyone can create an exquisite, one-of-a-kind book. Including you!

In this workshop you will learn to make a handmade book. You will see how to assemble an accordion book, a simple Coptic stitch-bound book, a broadside, and a book in a small box. Then you’ll determine which form best suits the book you’d like to create.

Please bring any special paper you’d like to incorporate in your book. You might also like to bring rubber stamps, a fine writing pen, a fountain pen, or Sharpies (color and/or black). If you’ve taken one of Kimberley Wood’s papermaking classes, you may have handmade paper to bring. This workshop is a perfect follow-up to Kimberley’s papermaking classes, but not a prerequisite.

Magdalena will encourage you to think outside the box and create a book that will best contain your writing or art. If you are not an artist or writer, then you can create this book as a gift to contain the words or art of a friend.

This one-day workshop will be held on Thursday, October 25th, from 9 AM to 4 PM, with a one-hour lunch break from noon until 1 PM.

The cost is $30, including supplies. All supplies are provided, though you may want to bring special pens or papers, as outlined above. Email to arrange payment either cash or Paypal.

Class is limited, so please enroll now to secure a spot.

idiomART Studio is newly located at Presidente Cordova 1-77 y Manuel Vega, in el Centro. Thursday, October 25th 9 AM to 4 PM.
