Recommendation for James Drummondo, wilderness survival training

Feed your wildside!

There's no shortage of guidebooks for survival, but the quickest way to gain wilderness awareness skills is to take a course from an experienced instructor and get hands-on training. Lucky for all of us here in Cuenca, there is a high quality, wilderness survival course available with James Drummondo & FINtastic Adventures de Ecuador.

I spent 2 days, with friends, at his beautiful property on the Rio Tomebamba in Challuabamba. Not only did I learn to start a fire, with a flint, build numerous types of shelters, signal for help, gather and purify water, about first aid and Mcguyver style survival kits, fishing, trapping, hunting techniques and weaponry skills, I had a blast doing it! What a FINtastic experience. I felt like a warrior & a master of fire.

James has a unique ability to communicate his systematic approach with a lifetime of experience and his easy going personality. Detailed, informative, clearly knowledgeable but also laid back and with genuine enthusiasm. He’s also a FINtastic fly fishing instructor and hiking guide in El Cajas.

Looking for a healthy level of challenge for mind, body, and spirit - and a very healthy dose of humility? For anyone whose curiosity is piqued, I strongly encourage you to take this course. Be warned though: you may want to drop everything else in your life and move out to the woods...
