Description: We are a family from San Francisco who drove our well cared for, “El Guapo” Honda Ridgeline down to South America for 8 months. We are the first and only owners of the vehicle, have taken great care of it, know the full history, know it is safe, comfortable, fun to drive, and will go mostly anywhere. It fits all of our gear for trekking, climbing, and surfing. With the under-bed trunk (in which we’ve installed a safe that fits a 15” MacBook Pro), Tonneau cover with 350 lb. rating (so, you could sleep on it if you wished), Thule box, and basket you can cruise in comfort from hostel to hotel to AirBnB and also bring all of your camping gear for wild camping. We’re including the basic car stuff we outfitted it with: HiLift Jack+bumper extension, MaxTrax, marine battery, jumper cables and jumper battery, fuses, etc.

Maintenance and repairs
Single Owner. Majority of maintenance done by Honda.
- October 2017 - All Points Check by Honda Dealership San Francisco
- November 2017 - shop repair Honda Mexico, La Paz Broken window repair, all points check, engine oil, etc.
- January 2018 - Honda Nicarage all points check, new transmission fluid, side rail “repair”
- March 2017 - transmission rebuild in Costa Rica, caused by a mis-diagnosed broken engine mount (fixed) and tons of off-roading in Guatemala

Damage & other disclosures:
- We slid a few inches off of the side of the road in Lanquin, Guatemala on a rainy day on our way to Semuc Champey. Consequently, we rolled over a small boulder and smashed the side rail, the underbody and passenger side rear door (see photos). Everything works fine; cosmetic only. Honda dealership in Managua Nicaragua pulled the side rail back out as best possible.
- The tires are beefy but they’ve got 40k miles on them now, 10k of which were hard miles. 2 have been repaired on this trip, one of them twice.
- If you’re going to weight this rig down super heavy and then ask it to hog up a huge mountain pass at altitude in the heat, the transmission is likely to overheat and you’ll have to pull over for 10 minutes or so to let it cool before proceeding.
- If you’re in serious 4x4 lock with the A/C on, the engine may overheat. Turn off the A/C and you’ll probably be fine.
- If you plan on driving this back to the USA, depending on the state you register it in you will probably need a new catalytic converter.
