Visa update.

The Immigration office near SuperMaxi Los Americas off Gran Colombia here in Cuenca will start issuing tourist visa extensions of 90 days to those holding a T-3 tourist visa (90 day), that would like to stay longer in the country.

This extension will replace the current VT-TUR the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been issuing.
The start date for this new procedure is still to be announced, but most likely they will start early in the new year 2018. The new extension visa can be obtained only once each chronological (not calendar) year, counting 12 months from the first time the person entered Ecuador as a tourist.

Health insurance coverage will be required for anyone seeking a visa extension. A T-3 visa holder will have thirty days after the expiration of the visa T-3 to request the extension. Be warned, a T-3 holder who is still in country 30 days after his T-3 expires is subject to fines and penalties....
