Awesome sunset hike

Watch the sun set behind the Cajas Mountains and the Cuenca lights turn on. One word, three letters describes the views, wow! Sit on the edge and soak it in. Guagual Shumi Mountain (pronounced Wawa Shumi) is said to be a very spiritual mountain and is the wife to Cojitambo Mountain. Guagual Shumi is only 20 minutes east of Cuenca. On the hike up we pass many Canari ancient rock walls. The hike up is moderate and takes about 40 minutes which includes breather breaks (aka photo ops). At 9,000 ft. this is hands-down the best full view of Cuenca along with the other valleys that surround the city. On the hike down the fireflies might put on a show for free. Headlamps and flashlights provided. The pick-up location for Sunset Hikes is at 3:30 at Bocatti market at the south end of Solano across from Tres Puentes. Date: Aug. 23rd. Cost is $35. Limit 4. To reserve your spot and for additional information and photos please visit my website and click on Hikes and Outings, scroll down to Guagual Shumi. Go to the Contact page and send me a message to reserve your spot. Sunrise hikes are also available upon request.
