Obtaining ongoing meds from IESS - more changes

The first change was that one could no longer obtain a 90 day supply of ongoing meds from the IESS hospital, but had to make an IESS doctor's appointment for a new prescription and repeat this every 90 days.

Prescriptions are to be filled at one of a small number of centers. Ask your doctor about which one and where. I live in the Remigio Crespo area and was told to go to the IESS Dispensario on Simon Bolivar y Presidente Borero.

As of last week, though, the IESS has directed doctors to only issue prescriptions for a 30-day supply. This means that you have to go and see your IESS doctor once a month. You also have to pick up your meds within three working days, otherwise the prescription is deemed stale and no longer accessible on the IESS computer system.
