Recommendation for Yolanda Colmenares, room rental/homestay

I would like to recommend Yolanda and her family who run the "Colmenares House" in Cuenca, Ecuador. I had the absolutely privilege of staying with them for a month this summer while I was interning with Social Entrepreneur Corps. Yolanda, her sister Anna, and son Carlos truly made my time away from the US feel like home. Carlos is a Salsa instructor as a night job, and he taught the other 24 kids on my program and me salsa while we were in Cuenca. Yolanda, Anna, and Carlos also toured me around Cuenca. They introduced me to many of their friends at church. Carlos even organized a soccer tournament for a few of us to play a rematch of "US vs. Ecuador" right after the Copa America. Yolanda has a beautiful house that is located outside of the city in a safe and gated community. It is a $2 taxi ride or a 20-minute walk. I walked every day and got to enjoy some of the scenery around Cuenca. I was glad it was located outside of the city as we stayed in a tranquil neighborhood that was a bit quieter. When I arrived in the city center, Yolanda was right there ready to walk me to her house. She is from Venezuela but has lived in Ecuador for 12 years. She made me breakfast and dinner every morning, and out of all the places I went to in Ecuador, her food was by far the best. Her homestay can be found on Air BnB ( and Trip Advisor ( The cost is very affordable. It costs $30/night for a room (that could fit 2 people if you are staying with someone else). And per month, she is offering a special deal to rent a room with a king-size bed and have breakfast and dinner included daily for just $450. The house has all the modern amenities one would look for - a washer, internet, hot shower, etc. I would highly recommend Yolanda's home to any foreigner looking to stay in Cuenca for a period of months, weeks, or days.
