Gran Roca, Wed and Fri, fresh produce and chickens - Oct 11th & 13th, 2-3:30

One announcement before we talk produce and chickens:

Don't miss our unique, informative and entertaining Farm-to-Table dinners at La Cilindrada coming again this month, with an Asian theme, on Wednesdays, October 11th and 18th. In case you're thinking this is just another random rice or noodle dish, see the menu for this exquisite 5-course dinner below.

Welcome Cocktail - Lemongrass Sour
Starters - Spring Wanton, Vegetable Sushi
Soup - Ginger, Carrot, Garlic and Lime leaf
Salad - Papaya, Green Onion and Lemon Salad with Chicken
Entree - Coconut Milk, Lime and Curry Lamb with Sauteed Vegetables
Dessert - Green Tea and Mint Ice Cream with Banana & Passion Fruit Sauce

Seating limited to 20 guests - Prix Fixe $20

* The menu uses more than two dozen farm fresh produce items from Gran Roca with textures and flavors unlike any others.
* The lamb comes from our partner who runs our animal operation. So we know the animal (and it's not an old sheep) and it will be butchered and dry aged at Gran Roca
* For this event, Farmer Rob will take to the kitchen and make for you his special recipe, Raw Vegetable Sushi. You've got to taste it to believe it.
* If you'd like to experience the most exciting dinner in all of Cuenca in October, email Mary Hellman at maryhellman@juno.com

Now about that fresh produce and chickens for this week:

We have the freshest markets in Cuenca and offer a large selection of farm fresh products and unique varieties not available anywhere else. Our produce is harvested in the morning for pickup in the afternoon. Can your favorite supermercado do that? (Not even close.)

The Gran Roca Wednesday Farm Fresh Market, will be on October 11th, from 2-3:30 at Filippo on Benigno Malo across from Parque Calderon. Enter through the big archway between Raymipampa and Tutto Freddo.

The Gran Roca Friday Farm Fresh Market will begin this week on October 13th from 2 -3:30 PM at the La Cilindrada Restaurant, 3-47 Roberto Crespo y Luis Moreno Mora, in El Vergel, with easy parking only a couple of blocks from the Stadium and SuperMaxi.

If you are looking for the best tasting pasture raised chickens, you have come to the right place. Our chickens are housed in groups of fewer than 100, on pasture, in a protective Chicken Tractor, fed whole foods without antibiotics or hormones, are moved daily to fresh pasture without poop or smell, are able to scratch in the soil, eat grass and bugs and see the natural cycles of day and night. It is a lot harder to do it this way, but this is how you produce the best food ever.

Our chickens come butchered to order so they must be ordered in advance by sending us an email letting us know (1) from which market date you want to pick them up (2) how many chickens you want, and whether to leave them whole or cut into parts, and (3) with or without organ meat. The Chickens vary in weight a little bit, but at $2.50/lb, most will sell for between $10 and $12.50 of ready to cook meat. You will receive an order confirmation and we will bring it to the Market you requested for pick up.
