Farming is for the birds: Sustainable Ag and Biodiversity tour

What do farmlands and National Parks in Ecuador have in common? Done well, both give us great birdwatching opportunities.

Fundación Cordillera Tropical and Gran Roca Farm have teamed up to offer a special event to explore how sustainable agriculture. This is having enormous impacts improving conservation effectiveness for Ecuador’s wildlife and wild places. Join us for the 9:30 AM – 4 PM trip to Gran Roca farm, where we’ll start with an on-site presentation by Fundación Cordillera Tropical’s executive director, Molly Roske, about the Foundation’s work with farming communities around the southern sierra’s protected areas. Molly’s talk will highlight the links between sustainable food systems and environmental conservation in Ecuador, and the benefits for bird biodiversity as well as for rural livelihoods. You’ll then be treated to the following three-course gourmet Farm-to-Table luncheon prepared by acclaimed Chef Michael Wagner from the finest Gran Roca organic ingredients:

Soup:
Potato, Leek and Carrot Soup with Dinosaur Kale Chips

Entrée:
Lemon Chicken
Vegetable Moussaka
Cabbage Spring Roll
Fresh Lettuce and Vegetable Salad Rose

Dessert:

We’ll close out the day with a walking tour of Gran Roca Farm with owner Robert Gray, where you will enjoy the majestic landscape views as well as the birds and other wildlife that abound on this restored finca. Rob’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and restoration of ecosystem services is a passion he’ll share as he demonstrates for visitors the benefits of not only eating this way but of producing food this way.
