Recommendation for Spanish Institute, language school

About two and a half years ago I arrived in Ecuador with maybe five words of Spanish - gracias, por favor - okay, maybe just three. I kicked around Quito for a few weeks getting my residency visa and took some Spanish classes there. I learned to count to ten. When I made my way to Cuenca I tried a few different schools, by then realizing that a grasp of the language would be immensely helpful to me and respectful to Ecuadorians.

Eventually I ran across the Spanish Institute of Cuenca on Calle Larga. I met Mariana, the owner of the school, and started taking classes twice a week. I'm still not fluent in Spanish but that's on me - it takes me a long time to learn something, but Mariana is patient and tailors my sessions to my needs. Now I communicate well enough that I'm married to an Ecuadorian woman who speaks no English. As they say at the school - learn Spanish for life.

I highly recommend, without hesitation, the Spanish Institute if you're interested in learning or improving your Spanish. They simply are the best. You will not be sorry.
