Unidos Somos Más: Night of Poetry and Arts to raise funds for Canoa

Two months ago, after the earthquake hit, a group of cultural organizations came together under the banner of Unidos Somos Más: united we are more. We are creating a night of poetry, theater, art, and music to raise funds to contribute to rebuilding Canoa. We are partnering with Colectivo Madre Tierra, San Sebas Cafe, and Hostel Yakumama to contribute to their grassroots project focused on helping families find a way back to their lives again.

On June 16, at Republica Sur, Unidos Somos Más will host this event. The night begins with videos, stories and photos from the project in Canoa. Then English and Spanish writers will read poems and essays, many of which were crafted in response to the quake. All pieces will be translated in both languages. Musicians from around South America will perform acoustic pieces. Actor Francisco Aguierre will perform his theater piece, “El Loco,” and there will also be a silent auction for paintings from local artists. Entry for the event is $5. Food and drink will also be available for purchase. 100% of the funds will go directly to Colectivo Madre Tierra.

June 16th, 7:30 PM-10:30 PM, Republica Sur, Presidente Cordova 5-55 and Hermano Miguel.
