Recommendation for Solstice Tour, course on Saraguro

Guided tour to Solstice with the Saraguro Culture

Go with a small group on a two day course and tour.

Day 1: Monday, June 20, half-day, lectures and discussion in Challuabamba. An anthropologist and a biologist will talk about the culture of the Saraguro and the cloud forest in the Andes/valley of the Saraguro.

On Day 2: Tuesday, June 21, Travel to Saraguro with the group to stay in the lovely Hostal Achik Wasi and partake of meals in the Shamiuco Restaurant. Transport and reservations made by the organizer of the course, Caty Frenkel, MSc, Passiflora Courses Coordinator.

The Solstice, (or Inti Raymi in Kichwa) celebration is one of the most important of the year for the Saraguro, to honor the Sun and give thanks for the harvest and health of the livestock. The Saraguro are the only ethnic group of the Loja area to survive the Spanish conquest. Become an informed participant-observer to this large festival.
