Helping Kids in Ecuador

Helping Kids in Ecuador (HKIE) wants to update our supporters on our ongoing efforts to help the children impacted by the devastating earthquake that rocked the Ecuadorian coast April 16, 2016.

Immediately following this tragic event, HKIE made a $1,500 donation to Cinterandes – a mobile surgical unit that was one of the first medical brigades to reach those in need.

It is now time to look towards ways our organization can help our own specific target audience – the children of Ecuador.

Our medical director, Dr. Pablo Salamea Moliana from Hospital del Rio, and our Ecuadorian affiliate partner, Fundacion Rostros Felices, are in contact with the Health Minister in Quito, re-assessing future medical missions to affected areas of Ecuador. We believe that many children from the coast will need to be brought to Cuenca and Hospital del Rio and other local hospitals and clinics for medical treatment.

Additionally, HKIE is assessing how we can help the Olon orphanage, Fundacion Santa Maria de la Esperanza, who has been a recipient of HKIE donations in the past.

Experts believe that there will be an influx of newly orphaned children from the coast that will arrive to this already overwhelmed orphanage and we feel that there will be very specific needs when this occurs, including bedding, clothing, food and financial donations.

As always, we are committed to “Helping Kids in Ecuador” and we will continue to advise you of the most urgent needs. We thank you for your continued support and heightened awareness at this particular time.
